Charles Standish (Charlie) Elliott (front row, second from right)
Eldest son of George and Florence Elliott of Scarcliffe.
Born - 24th April 1912
Nephew of Harry Elliott he played cricket for Derbyshire from 1932 until 1953. In 1956 he became an umpire for first class matches and umpired his first test match in 1957. He umpired 42 test matches until retirement in 1974 when he became an England selector until finally retiring in 1981. He was President of Derbyshire cricket committee in 1993 and 1994. He also played football and at the age of 19 went to Coventry City via Sheffield Wednesday and Chesterfield. He retired from professional football in 1948 and became the club’s chief scout. Later he was caretaker manager but declined the offer of the job on a permanent basis.
